Whidbey Island Autumn Bucket List: 9 Things Not to Miss Out On!
Fall on Whidbey Island is absolutely gorgeous, and we hope you can take some time to relax and enjoy it! Keep reading for some fun ways to help you make the most of this festive season:
1. Indulge in autumn-inspired sweet treats… like caramel apples and pumpkin spice ~everything~!
If you have a sweet tooth, you’re in luck because Whidbey Island serves up a huge variety of seasonal goodness to treat yourself to! Whidbey Donuts has their fair share of spooky sweets to choose from, and if you swing by Chances for Dessert this time of year… chances for pumpkin spice cupcakes are high! Sweet Mona’s Chocolate Boutique also has some not-to-miss creations… pumpkin cream truffles, caramel apples, and vanilla ganache eyeballs are all on the menu.
2. Speaking of seasonal treats… ‘tis the season for pie, both sweet and savory!
Whidbey Pies & Cafe is THE place to get your pecan pies, pumpkin pies, apple pies, salted caramel apple pies… pretty much anything you’re craving this fall is on the menu here. They also serve up a rotating menu of savory pies which are available by the slice in person (except for their special Thanksgiving savory pie, which you can buy whole and beginning in November).
3. Visit a pumpkin patch or a farm.
One of the very best things about Whidbey Island has to be all of our farms! Not only does this mean we have access to farm-fresh produce and products all year long, but we also get to visit picture-perfect pumpkin patches and indulge in homemade autumnal treats when fall comes along. Click here to check out 3 must-visit pumpkin patches on Whidbey Island.
4. Go cheer on your local football team!
There’s just something wonderful and cozy about bundling up and enjoying a hot cocoa while cheering on your local football team. You can find Oak Harbor High School’s Football game schedule here, Coupeville High School’s football game schedule here (scroll to the bottom of the page), and South Whidbey High School’s football game schedule here.
5. Enjoy a fall-flavored adult beverage… let the pumpkin beer and cider flow!
Whidbey Beer Works has got you covered for pumpkin beer… stop by and stock up your fridge for autumn. When you want to sip on something in person (or grab an entire growler), word on the street is that Harvest Moon Pumpkin Spice Ale is on tap at Wicked Teuton Brewing Company (although last time we checked they were down to their last keg…). If you’re looking for another local spot, you’ll find ciders on tap at each of Penn Cove Brewing Co.’s taprooms.
6. Visit one of Whidbey Island’s (rumored!) haunted spots.
Whidbey Island is home to some pretty spooky stories. Click here (if you dare!) to read about 3 places rumored to be haunted on Whidbey.
7. Pick apples and enjoy fresh pressed cider.
Rock’n Apple Ranch has u-pick apples and they even make their own fresh cider you can buy. Take home some fresh Washington apples and make apple pies, apple tarts, applesauce, apple butter, apple crisp… you get the idea!
8. Go on a Whidbey Island Mushroom tour.
The fall rains bring a robust mushroom season to the Pacific Northwest, and Whidbey Island mushroom enthusiasts jump at the chance to explore the outdoors and go foraging. But you don’t have to be an expert—during October and November, you can go on guided mushroom foraging tours with Whidbey Wild Mushroom Tours.
9. Have fun with all of the Halloween events, from trick-or-treating happenings to harvest-themed gatherings!
You can find an extensive list of things happening this October 2019 right here.
