As a result of COVID-19, so many of our treasured local businesses here on Whidbey Island have had to temporarily close or significantly change the way they do business. In our Local Lift series, each week we are doing a small business “boost” and purchasing items (services, gift cards, etc.) to giveaway to the Whidbey Island community.

The Hive Salon in Oak Harbor is a group of 6 professional stylists who are all dedicated to offering bespoke services, and they’ve also partnered with Green Circle Salons to make sure they provide an eco-friendly environment. K & R Farms The Stand
Located at 36699 SR 20 in Oak Harbor, K & R Farms The Stand is a local icon, and with good reason! Not only is this local farm known for their fun pumpkin patch and autumn-themed offerings in the fall, but they sell a variety of farm-fresh foods including jarred goods and beef. Locals and out-of-towners alike also love stopping by for shaved ice and ice cream!
There’s more to choose from throughout the year depending on the season, so follow The Stand on Facebook and Instagram for frequent updates on new open dates/times and product offerings to make sure that you don’t miss out.
China City
Thank you to China City for donating the gift cards for this giveaway! China City has a few different locations in our region (Oak Harbor, Freeland, and Mill Creek), and this local favorite serves up a mouthwatering menu of American-Chinese cuisine. Find all of the classics, plus several vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free dishes that’ll help to keep everyone in your group happy.
Right now, you can order China City to go, and they’ve even got some great takeout drink options, including pre-mixed cocktails and great prices on wine bottles. Follow China City on Facebook and Instagram for alerts on special deals and open dates/hours.
Orchard Kitchen
Orchard Kitchen in Langley is one of the many establishments that gives Whidbey Island its small-town, rural charm. Right now, Orchard Kitchen has some unique offerings that you can order in advance and pick up curbside. There are 3-course meals prepared by Orchard Kitchen’s Chef Vincent Nattress, there are a variety of prepared foods perfect for a picnic (like egg salad, seasonal soups, and cheese selections), you can order wines by the box and bottle, and there’s also fresh produce available at their farm stand. (Orchard Kitchen also has a CSA box, but it is currently sold out.)

Blue Fox Drive-In
This outdoor theatre in Oak Harbor is a Whidbey Island classic! In addition to drive-in movies, there are also typically go-karts and an arcade you can play at (it’s the perfect spot for birthday parties!). Blue Fox Drive-In is also home to a popular snack bar where you can purchase everything from pizzas, burgers, hot dogs, nachos, popcorn, churros, kettle corn, and more… you can see why this spot is so darn popular!
