Local Lift: Agave Taqueria, Wind and Tide Bookshop, Jet Java, and Little Red Hen Bakery GIVEAWAY

We’re in the midst of Phase 2 here on Whidbey Island, and it’s so wonderful to be able to dine out again, visit our favorite shops in person, and of course, get much-needed haircuts and beauty treatments!

Our local businesses have all experienced hardships as a result of COVID-19 closures and restrictions, and we have been trying to help our local Whidbey Island economy by doing weekly small business “boosts”!

In our Local Lift series, we’ve been purchasing items (services, gift cards, etc.) to give away to Whidbey Island locals! Thanks for stopping by, and here’s what we’re giving away this week:

This week’s giveaway includes:

  • Two $65 to Agave Taqueria

  • Two $65 certificates to Wind and Tide Bookshop

  • Two $25 cards to Jet Java

  • Two $50 gift certificates to Red Hen Bakery

There will be 8 lucky winners drawn at random. To enter, head on over to this Facebook post and follow the instructions. (All you have to do is leave a comment to enter!) Deadline for giveaway entries is Thursday, June 25 at 5pm PST.

Agave Taqueria

If you’re craving some hearty Mexican cuisine from a laid-back spot, Agave Taqueria located at 625 NE Midway Blvd, Oak Harbor, WA is raved about by locals and reviewers on both Yelp and Google. Popular dishes include Tacos al Carbon, the Veggie Burrito, Wet Burritos, the Wet Chile Colorado, the Chile Colorado Burrito, the Chicken Tortilla Soup, and the Beef Chimichanga (to name just a few faves!). Click here to take a look at Agave Taqueria’s Yelp reviews (and lots of photos of their delicious food!).

Wind and Tide Bookshop

Located at 790 SE Pioneer Way, Oak Harbor, WA 98277 in the heart of Historic Downtown Oak Harbor, Wind and Tide Bookshop has been Oak Harbor’s go-to bookstore since 1967. You’ll find everything here from children’s books and graphic novels to bestsellers and “everything in between,” according to Wind and Tide’s website. They’re happy to help you find any book (even if you can’t remember the title… they love a challenge!), and they’re ready to help you order something if they don’t have it. You can even get books shipped right to your home.

This treasured establishment also sells toys, gift items, greeting cards, and journals, making it the perfect place to stop by if you’re looking for a present for someone (or just something special for yourself!). You can even host birthday parties here and reserve a meeting space for free.

Jet Java

This popular java joint has a few different locations on Whidbey Island—one in Oak Harbor, one in Coupeville, and one in Clinton. Jet Java takes their relationship with their customers very seriously, and their company’s mission statement is “Fun, friendly, fast specialty coffee experiences that enrich people daily lives.” In addition to several different espresso-based beverages like lattes, golden lattes, mochas, americanos, cappuccinos, and macchiatos, they also serve several different to-go food items as well.

Little Red Hen Bakery

Little Red Hen Bakery is known for their incredible handmade bread (they even have bread subscriptions) and pastries, including scones, croissants, sweet rolls, sweet breads, English muffins, and cookies. In addition to Little Red Hen Bakery’s main location at 4 Front St NE, Coupeville, WA 98239, you can also purchase their bread from several other shops in the area. They even have their front patio open for dining now, so you can enjoy a delicious treat while relaxing in the shade out in the fresh air!
